JoinMyJam (joinmyjam.com) places great importance on protecting the privacy of visitors and users of its services. This document details which types of information are collected when you use the website and the app, and how we use and safeguard it.
By using the service, registering for it, or making a voluntary support payment, you express your consent to the terms of this policy and to the handling of information as described herein.
This policy is written in the masculine form for convenience only and applies to all genders; it covers the website, the app, and all related services (hereinafter: the "Service").
We use the information to operate, maintain, protect, and improve the Service; to personalize and recommend content; to prevent misuse and security breaches; to process support payments; and to manage and moderate community content.
Mailing and marketing: In accordance with applicable communications law, registered users or those who have consented to receive mailings may receive updates, recommendations, reminders, and promotional materials; you may withdraw your consent at any time via your account settings or the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every message.
We use cookies and similar technologies for routine operation, to preserve login details, to collect statistical data, and to tailor relevant advertising (including through third-party advertising systems such as Google). You can block or delete cookies via your browser settings, but doing so may impair part of the user experience. When you first visit, a consent banner lets you accept or decline non-essential cookies; you can change your choice at any time.
Advertising (Google AdSense): Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or to other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, and opt out of some other third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices. If you decline non-essential cookies in our consent banner, only non-personalized ads are requested.
Analytics (Google Analytics): We use Google Analytics to measure site traffic and usage. It loads only after you accept cookies in our consent banner. You can additionally opt out using the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. Country-level statistics: To understand which countries our visitors come from, we derive an approximate country from your IP address when your browser reports usage events, and store only the two-letter country code (for example, "IL") alongside that event. We do not store your IP address, your city, or your coordinates for this purpose. In our internal reports, countries with very few visitors are grouped together under "Other" so that an individual visitor cannot be identified.
We do not sell, rent, or disclose personal information to third parties, except in the following cases:
You may view, update, correct, or request the deletion of your profile and personal information at any time via your account settings; you can also control cookie permissions via your browser settings.
Downloading your data: You may request a full copy of the personal information we hold about you, or generate it directly in Account Settings → Privacy & Data → "Download my data" (a JSON file).
California residents' rights (CCPA): If you are a California resident, you have the right to request that your personal information not be sold/shared (Opt-Out). You can enable this in Account Settings → Privacy & Data → "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information", or via the "Do Not Sell My Personal Information" link in the site footer.
We implement accepted systems, procedures, and encryption (such as SSL/TLS) to protect the information against unauthorized access, alteration, or disclosure. Nevertheless, we cannot guarantee absolute immunity, and we are not liable for damages resulting from events beyond the reasonable measures we have taken.
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period thereafter, as needed to provide the Service, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. Upon account deletion, we will delete or de-identify the personal information, except for information we are required or permitted to retain by law.
We may send you push notifications to your device. This mechanism is a built-in feature of the device/browser; you can turn it off at any time via your device settings or the Service settings.
The Service is not intended for minors under the age of 13 (or the age of consent applicable in your country of residence), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. Use by a minor is conditioned on the consent of a parent or guardian. If we become aware that information has been collected from a minor without the required consent, we will act to delete it.
We offer an optional browser extension. While it is installed and you are playing a track on YouTube, YouTube Music, or Spotify, it sends the track title and the performer name shown on that page to our servers, for the single purpose of checking whether that song exists in our published catalog. If it does, a button appears; if it does not, nothing appears.
The extension does not send the address of the page you are on, an account identifier, or any cookie, and the request carries no credentials. We do not associate these lookups with a person and do not use them to build a profile. The extension stores nothing on your device beyond a short-lived cache held in memory, which is discarded when your browser shuts the extension down.
You can remove the extension at any time from your browser's extensions page; removing it ends all of the above immediately.
What we collect for a listing: the photographs you upload of the item; the details you choose (category, condition, price, and a town from our list of places); the title and description; and, before a listing can be published, a phone number you confirm with a code sent by text message.
Photographs are stripped of location data before we store them. A photograph taken on a phone normally carries the coordinates of the place it was taken — for someone photographing an instrument at home, that is their home address. Every photograph is therefore re-encoded when it arrives, and all embedded metadata, including those coordinates, is discarded. This applies to both ways a photograph can reach the Bazaar: images chosen in the browser are re-encoded before they are uploaded, and images that arrive through an assistant are re-encoded on our servers. If that re-encoding fails, the photograph is refused rather than stored as it arrived.
What a published listing shows to other people: its title, description, photographs, category, condition, price, and the town you selected, visible to anyone including visitors who are not signed in. We show the town, never a street address. Your phone number is not printed on the page: a signed-in viewer may choose to reveal it, and that action is rate-limited.
Using the Bazaar through an assistant. You may connect an assistant — for example the JoinMyJam plugin in ChatGPT — through an authorization screen that names what is being granted. What reaches us from that conversation is one finished item and its photographs. Identifying the item, estimating a price, and wording the listing all happen inside the assistant you are already using, on your own account with that provider and under that provider's privacy policy; we do not send your photographs to any artificial-intelligence provider ourselves, and we do not receive your conversation. What an assistant creates is a private draft. Nothing is published from a conversation: you review the draft and publish it yourself. You can see every connected application, and disconnect any of them, in Account Settings, under "Connected applications"; disconnecting takes effect immediately.
Drafts and deletion. A draft is visible only to you. You may edit or delete a draft at any time, and deleting it deletes its photographs. A published listing may be edited or closed at any time from your listings. Section 8 governs how long the remaining information is kept.
This policy may be updated from time to time. Continued use of the Service after an update constitutes acceptance of the updated policy; we recommend reviewing it periodically.
