The short answer: Every practice tool here is free — no paywall, no sign-up, and that is site policy. The site is commercial and pays its bills openly: advertising and community donations.

A musician who wants to practise today usually ends up assembling a scattered toolbox: one app for the tuner, a second for the metronome, a third for chord diagrams, a fourth to slow a passage down on YouTube. Each one wants an install, often an account, and frequently a monthly fee for a single function. This page explains why it works differently here, and where the money that allows it comes from.
The site's music tools are open to anyone who arrives:
There is no "pro" tier, no daily quota, and no function that unlocks on payment. An account adds the things that need somewhere to be stored — saved grooves, a loop published to the community, fingering preferences — but it is not the condition for using the tool itself.
This is a decision, not a temporary state. We are musicians, and the site was built to give the community what we would have wanted available to us.
The tools here run in the browser. Nothing to download, nothing to update, and no need to clear space on a phone in order to tune a guitar.
That changes how practice actually goes. A real practice session moves between several tools in the same half hour — check tuning, set a tempo, look up a fingering for the chord that keeps stopping you, slow four bars of a video down and play them again. When each of those is a separate app, moving between them is a tax: each one reloads, breaks concentration, and asks for its own account. The tools page collects them all at one address, and each one is a link you can send to someone else in the band.
It also means the device's operating system does not decide anything. The same tuner and the same metronome run on a laptop, a phone and a tablet, with no app store in the middle.
The site has real costs — servers, a database, bandwidth, transcription and translation services, and content licensing. They are paid from two sources, and we would rather say so plainly than hide it behind "we do this for the love of it":
Advertising. Display ads appear on some pages of the site. They are always labelled, they do not go inside a live jam room, and they do not pop over a tool you are in the middle of using. The categories we accept and the ones we refuse are listed on the advertising page.
Community donations. Anyone the site helps can support it, once or monthly. A donation does not buy a function — it buys ad-free browsing and a profile border, and that is all. Everything else is open anyway to anyone, including people who have never donated and never will.
Both sources serve the same purpose: letting the site survive financially without handing the bill to the musician who came to practise. We see no contradiction between the two. A site that does not cover its costs closes, and a closed site serves no community at all.
Are all the tools really free? Yes. The tuner, the metronome, both loopers, the chord dictionary and the scale dictionary are open to anyone who arrives at the site, with no paywall and no quota. That is site policy, not a limited-time offer.
Do I need an account to use them? No. The tools themselves work without signing up. An account is needed only for things that have to be saved or published — a stored groove, a loop shared with the community, a jam you host.
Do I have to download an app? No. Everything runs in the browser, on desktop and on mobile, and you can add the site to your home screen if that suits you. There is no separate app per tool and nothing to update.
How does the site make money if the tools are free? From advertising shown on the site, and from donations by users who choose to support it. This is a commercial site trying to cover its costs, and it says so openly.
What does a donation get me? Ad-free browsing and profile borders. No musical function is locked behind a donation, so someone who does not donate loses no capability.
Can I stop a monthly donation? Yes, at any time, from My support or through Cancel a transaction.
